Melvin Cohen came from Philadelphia to Montreal’s McGill University where he completed an M.Sc. in computer science in 1975.  He worked for Bell Canada for ten years before leaving in 1988 to start a competitor, Distributel Communications.  Bell tried to get the regulator to shut the company down, but Mel led Distributel through this and many challenges, eventually selling the company to Bell in 2022.  Since then, he has been enjoying retirement and using the skills he acquired in over 40 years of business to support MiaSarka’s charitable endeavors that his wife spearheads.
