Mr. Jonathan Charron
Jonathan Charron is a lawyer in the Montreal tax group at Fasken. He advises clients in various industries on a broad range of complex international legal and taxation matters. His focus is providing services to the firm’s private clients. He advises and supports individuals and families of various origins whose businesses prosper from one generation to the next in multiple sectors.
His expertise centres around Canadian and international tax law; asset protection, preservation and estate transfer planning; trusts and estates; international banking and tax regulations (FATCA, CRS, AEOI, IGAs); private international law; corporate reorganizations and cross-border transactions; life insurance planning; and philanthropic tax planning.
Jonathan is a member of the Barreau du Québec, the Law Society of Ontario, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Institut québécois de planification financière. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation, jointly granted by the Université de Montréal and HEC Montréal. He received a Licentiate in Law (LL.L.) and a Bachelor of Common Law (LL.B.) from the University of Ottawa. In law school, he received many university awards, including the gold medal from the University of Ottawa for the highest average in the Licentiate in Law program. He is also a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Prior to joining Fasken, he was a wealth and tax planning advisor at an international multi-family office with locations in Canada and Europe. He has also taught tax law and estate planning at Université de Montréal (joint program with HEC Montréal), Université de Sherbrooke and the University of Ottawa (Common Law Program).
