Mr. Uri Levine

Uri Levine (http://urilevine.com/) is a passionate serial entrepreneur and disruptor. He co-founded Waze, the world’s largest community based driving traffic and navigation app, with more than 250M drivers around the globe, which was acquired by Google on June 2013 for more than $1.1 billion.

Since then, he pursues his dream to create great value for large audiences, through the series of startups he founded. His vision is specifically intended to disrupt inefficient markets and improve under-functioning services, with focus on solving “BIG problems” and saving consumers time and money, while empowering them and changing the world for the better.

Levine is Co-Founder, Chairman or Board Member in several startups with the agenda of ‘doing good and doing well’:  FeeX, Moovit, HERE, Engie, FairFly, ZeeK, Roomer, WeTrip, Seetree, Refundit & Lifecare. He is always working on his next idea.

Uri has been in the high-tech business for the last 30 years, half of them in the startup scene, and has seen everything ranging from failure, middle success and extreme success.

He is also a world-class speaker on entrepreneurship, disruption, evolution vs. revolutions of markets, mobility and startups. Motivated to encourage the next generation of thinkers and innovators he also leads an academic workshop entitled “How to Build a Startup”, aimed at undergraduate and graduate level business students.

- Co-Founder & Chairman, Refundit, an advanced fully automated service for VAT refund for tourists, which will save them the bureaucracy and hassle at the airport and get their money back in a fast and easy way.

– Investor and Board Member at SeeTree, which responds to the particularly devastating challenges in permanent crop farming such as crop losses, epidemics etc. Seetree provides a unique intelligence platform for tree-farmers fusing AI/ML, IoT multi-sensorics data and other advanced technologies to enable them to best manage their permanent crops.

– Co-Founder & Chairman at LiveCare, the first smart medical alert device for the elderly population, combining innovation with compliance to up-to-date regulatory requirements. Livecare is a wearable device that detects emergency situations such as falls and integrates a two-way communications portal for instant help indoors and out.

– Investor in WeTrip which provides a platform to enable these Generation -Y travelers to easily plan and book concept holidays together. WeTrip focuses on selling tailor-made holiday packages in two specific areas: winter ski vacations and summer festival holidays.

Ellen Havdala

Ellen has worked in a variety of capacities for Sam Zell’s affiliated companies since 1990.

She represents EGI in sourcing potential transactions and meeting new capital sources. Ellen serves on the board of Ardent Health Partners, LLC, a provider of hospital and healthcare services. In addition, she is responsible for establishing and overseeing the Zell Global Entrepreneurship Network (ZGEN), an organization designed to provide continuing education and mentorship for students and alumni of Sam’s three entrepreneurship education programs.

During her tenure within Sam’s network, she served on the boards of SIRVA, Inc., a provider of moving and relocation services; Rewards Network, Inc., a dining rewards company; WRS Holding Company, an environmental construction and remediation company; East Mediterranean Gas Company SAE, an Egyptian natural gas transmission company; National Patent Development Corporation, a holding company focused on pharmaceutical and home improvement products; and Home Products International, a global consumer products company. She also held the roles of Executive Vice President at Equity International and Vice President of Scott Sports Group, Inc. Prior to joining Sam’s organization, Ellen was a financial analyst with The First Boston Corporation in New York City. She graduated magna cum laude with a BA from Harvard College, and earned her Master of Divinity from the University of Chicago in 2016.

Mr. Grant Bunker

Grant Bunker is an Investment Counsellor within the Private Client Investment Counselling team at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which he joined in 2014.

Mr. Bunker has investment experience since 1995, serving both private and institutional clients. Prior to joining Mawer, Mr. Bunker was Vice President, Business Development for Aurion Capital Management where he was responsible for the management of pooled and segregated accounts. Previous to that, he was Vice President, Business Development for Creststreet Asset Management, Regional Sales Manager at Tricycle Asset Management and a Senior Account Manager at Great-West Life Assurance Co.

Mr. Bunker earned his MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph. In 2006, he obtained his Certified Investment Manager designation from the Canadian Securities Institute.

Mr. Sam Ifergan

Sam has over 20 years of entrepreneurial, technology and venture capital experience. He founded iGan Partners in 2013 and iGan is now the largest healthcare VC investor in Canada. As Managing Director, Sam is involved in the evaluation, structuring, execution, and support of iGan’s investments. Sam is a leader in the commercialization of innovative healthcare technologies in both the medical device and healthcare IT sectors. Currently, Sam is Chairman of eSight and MolecuLight and sits on the board of seven other MedTech companies and has helped oversee six exits. Prior to founding iGan Partners, Sam co-founded and exited several companies including Visualsonics, Tri-Link Technologies and Brighter Minds. Sam started his career as a strategy consultant with Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman) where he advised Fortune 500 companies on corporate strategy. Sam holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from McGill University and an MBA from The John Molson School of Business.

Mr. Greg Walker

Greg Walker is head of Institutional sales ETFs for Vanguard Investments Canada Inc. Before joining Vanguard, Mr. Walker served as the global head of ETF distribution at RBC Capital Markets. He was previously the managing director and head of iShares business development at BlackRock Asset Management Canada Limited and director of institutional fixed income at Dundee Securities. He also held increasingly senior positions at Bank of Montreal, including vice president in a fixed income investment management group specializing in credit risk assets.

Mr. Walker earned an HBA in economics and financial management from Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a CFA® charterholder and has held positions on a number of investment industry boards, including the Buy-Side Investment Management Association (BIMA) and the board of Women in Capital Markets (WCM).

Mr. David Barr

Mr. Barr is the President, CEO of Pender and Portfolio Manager of several of Pender’s funds. Mr. Barr began his investing career in 2000. He initially worked in private equity which gives him a unique background to investing capital. At the end of 2007 he became a partner at PenderFund Capital Management Ltd and was appointed Chief Investment Officer with the objective of launching Pender’s mutual fund business. In April 2016 Mr. Barr was appointed President and CEO of Pender.  Mr. Barr holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2003 and is an active member of the Vancouver chapter. He is a past President of CFA Vancouver, having also served on its Board of Directors for four years.

Mr. Barr has been interviewed for his opinions on small cap, the technology sector and value investing by the Financial Post, The Globe & Mail and other media. He is a regular guest on BNN Bloomberg. In December 2012 Mr. Barr was recognized as one of British Columbia’s “Top Forty Under 40” business leaders by Business in Vancouver.

The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund, managed by Mr. Barr, has won a Lipper Fund Award for Best Canadian Small/Mid Cap Fund over both three and five year performance periods for the last three consecutive years, 2015 to 2017. The Lipper awards recognize consistently strong, risk-adjusted performance relative to peers. The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund has also received Fundata’s FundGrade® A+ Award for the last seven consecutive years, 2012 to 2018.

Mr. Oded Orgil

  • Oded is partner at Powercorp Capital Inc, a family office, located in midtown Toronto.
  • He has over 20 years’ experience as a Senior Executive in the Financial Securities Industry with a proven track record of building and leading profitable organizations.
  • Oded’s experience includes Senior Executive positions at Manulife Financial, Canaccord Genuity Group Inc., CIBC Wood Gundy, and Merrill Lynch Canada.
  • Most recently he was CEO of Gravitas Securities Inc. a full service boutique investment firm with offices in Toronto and Vancouver.

  • Oded came to Canada as a child with his parents directly from Israel. He has two brothers, one of whom lives in Israel the other in Toronto.

Ms. Maureen Berry

Mr. Jeremy Freedman

Jeremy began his professional career as a trial lawyer with Davies, Ward & Beck (now Davies, Ward, Philips & Vineberg) in 1986. After 14 years of practice, in 2000 he joined Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc., a single fund equity investment firm, as a Vice-President, responsible for developing business strategy and client development. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2001 and given responsibility for all of the firm’s day-to-day operations. He was appointed President & CEO in 2010. After 15 years of leading the firm, Jeremy announced his retirement in 2016. During this period, GS+A diversified its investment offerings to include hedge funds, fixed income securities and a variety of distinct equity offerings, and assets under management grew from $670 million to over $8.5 billion.

Jeremy received a Juris Doctor degree from Queen’s University in 1982 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1984. While at Queen’s, he was elected Rector of the University and served in this capacity from 1980-1982. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School in 1986, graduating as a Baker Scholar. He is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Diabetes Hope Foundation, the Jerusalem Foundation, the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies and the North York General Hospital Foundation. He also co-Chairs the Endowment Fundraising Campaign for Maccabi Canada. Jeremy has had the privilege of representing Canada on four occasions in international Jewish sports competitions (golf), bringing home 3 Gold Medals and a lifetime of memories. At the European Maccabi Games held in Berlin in 2015, Jeremy also had the honour of being selected as Canada’s Flag Bearer and considers leading the Canadian’s team’s march into the stadium built for the infamous 1936 Olympics as one of the most important and moving moments of his life.

Jeremy’s wife of 27 years, Judith, hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma. They have 3 children – Jesse (24), Amanda (22) and Zach (19), all of whom seem to be on good and productive paths despite their upbringing.
