Mr. Greg Walker

Greg Walker is head of Institutional sales ETFs for Vanguard Investments Canada Inc. Before joining Vanguard, Mr. Walker served as the global head of ETF distribution at RBC Capital Markets. He was previously the managing director and head of iShares business development at BlackRock Asset Management Canada Limited and director of institutional fixed income at Dundee Securities. He also held increasingly senior positions at Bank of Montreal, including vice president in a fixed income investment management group specializing in credit risk assets.

Mr. Walker earned an HBA in economics and financial management from Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a CFA® charterholder and has held positions on a number of investment industry boards, including the Buy-Side Investment Management Association (BIMA) and the board of Women in Capital Markets (WCM).

Mr. David Barr

Mr. Barr is the President, CEO of Pender and Portfolio Manager of several of Pender’s funds. Mr. Barr began his investing career in 2000. He initially worked in private equity which gives him a unique background to investing capital. At the end of 2007 he became a partner at PenderFund Capital Management Ltd and was appointed Chief Investment Officer with the objective of launching Pender’s mutual fund business. In April 2016 Mr. Barr was appointed President and CEO of Pender.  Mr. Barr holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2003 and is an active member of the Vancouver chapter. He is a past President of CFA Vancouver, having also served on its Board of Directors for four years.

Mr. Barr has been interviewed for his opinions on small cap, the technology sector and value investing by the Financial Post, The Globe & Mail and other media. He is a regular guest on BNN Bloomberg. In December 2012 Mr. Barr was recognized as one of British Columbia’s “Top Forty Under 40” business leaders by Business in Vancouver.

The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund, managed by Mr. Barr, has won a Lipper Fund Award for Best Canadian Small/Mid Cap Fund over both three and five year performance periods for the last three consecutive years, 2015 to 2017. The Lipper awards recognize consistently strong, risk-adjusted performance relative to peers. The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund has also received Fundata’s FundGrade® A+ Award for the last seven consecutive years, 2012 to 2018.

Mr. Oded Orgil

  • Oded is partner at Powercorp Capital Inc, a family office, located in midtown Toronto.
  • He has over 20 years’ experience as a Senior Executive in the Financial Securities Industry with a proven track record of building and leading profitable organizations.
  • Oded’s experience includes Senior Executive positions at Manulife Financial, Canaccord Genuity Group Inc., CIBC Wood Gundy, and Merrill Lynch Canada.
  • Most recently he was CEO of Gravitas Securities Inc. a full service boutique investment firm with offices in Toronto and Vancouver.
  • Oded has also advised numerous of Private Canadian Corporations on Marketing, Operations and Corporate Governance.
  • Prior to working in the financial services sector Oded practiced law with a Toronto firm.
  • He has been President of the Canada Israel Chamber of Commerce since 2010.
  • Oded was a member of the Israel National Hockey Team: 1992-97, 2000 and competed for Israel in the Maccabiah games in 2013 and 2017.
  • Oded came to Canada as a child with his parents directly from Israel. He has two brothers, one of whom lives in Israel the other in Toronto.
  • He is happily married with five wonderful children.

Mr. Carl Merton

Carl Merton, Chief Financial Officer, has over 20 years of financial and business experience, having spent almost 12 years combined with Ernst & Young LLP and KPMG LLP prior to serving as Vice-President, Special Projects at Atlas Tube Canada ULC, Chief Financial Officer of Reko International Group Inc. (TSXV: REK) and Chief Financial Officer of Aphria Inc. Mr. Merton is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (the “CICBV”). As the Chief Financial Officer of Aphria, Mr. Merton is responsible for leading strategic discussions, acquisitions and divestitures, budgeting, financing, financial reporting and internal controls. Mr. Merton holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration from Laurentian University. In addition Mr. Merton, is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Motor City Community Credit Union, is the Chair of their Audit Committee, serves as an external member of the Audit Committee of the Greater Windsor & Essex County District School Board and has served as a past Chair of both the CICBV and the International Association of Professional Business Valuators.

Mr. Saul Plener

Saul Plener is the National Leader for PwC’s Private Company Services practice in Canada. He focuses on business issues affecting owners and leaders of private companies—from digital transformation and growth strategies to succession planning and tax planning.

Prior to his current role, Saul served as the firm’s National Managing Partner for Strategy and Operations and as the National Tax Leader, specializing in international transfer pricing. Before joining PwC, he practiced in the CRA’s large case audit division, where he was responsible for reviewing domestic and international transactions.

For more than 20 years, Saul was actively involved with the CICA and the UFE programs. He was a member of the CICA Tax Policy Committee and the CICA Board of Evaluators (2002 to 2005), and was the Board chairman (2007 to 2008). He is a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of Toronto and is a member of the Budget and Finance committee of the UJA.

Saul has a Bachelor of Business Administration from York University in Toronto. He is a CPA and in 2009 was elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario for his achievements and leadership contributions to the community and the profession.

Ms. Kate Pal

Mr. David Traylor

David Traylor is Senior Managing Director at Golden Eagle Partners, a firm he founded in 2012 to advise life science companies. After advising on various transactions in the life science sector, he took an interest in the cannabis sector and started advising cannabis companies in 2013.   In 2014, he joined Surna, Inc. (OTC:SRNA) as Chief Business Officer. After close to a year stint at Surna, David re-founded Golden Eagle Partners to provide his knowledge to companies across the cannabis sector.

Before Golden Eagle Partners, David led the Life Science group at Headwaters MB, a leading boutique investment bank.   Before Headwaters, David served as a Senior Vice President at Caris & Company where he was focused on biopharmaceuticals. He also previously worked at Pacific Growth Equities, which later became Wedbush. During his banking tenures he has advised private and public biotechnology and medical device companies in various transactions including IPOs, public offerings, private offerings, mergers and acquisitions totaling over $500 million in value.

Before investment banking, David spent fifteen years in diverse operational roles in biotechnology companies, from research and development to business development, manufacturing, program management and senior management.

David began his career in biotechnology, with a position in bioprocess manufacturing at Synergen (acquired by Amgen), and then moved into R&D and process development positions at Somatogen, a company pursuing a recombinant blood substitute. After Somatogen (acquired by Baxter), he led the management of programs and development initiatives at Affymetrix (acquired by Thermo Fisher), the leading innovator in microarray technology. David began his business development career at Deltagen then moved over the lead the U.S. operations for atugen AG (acquired by Silence Therapeutics), a Berlin-based functional genomics company.  At Bioseek (acquired by Asterand), David led the business development efforts for one of the first systems biology companies.

In 1988, David was one of five Colorado players selected to play for the Denver Rifles in the American Lacrosse League (ALL) – the first U.S. professional field lacrosse league.  David remains active in athletics and is parlaying his athletic background and knowledge in cannabis as a valuable member of Athletes for Care.

David received B.A. degrees from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Biochemistry and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and an M.B.A.  from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He is also the inventor on three issued U.S. patents.

David holds the Series 7, 63 and 66 securities licenses.

Mr. Jason Blick

Jason qualified as a UK attorney and served as the nationwide manager of BerrmansLace Mawer, who specialise in financial services. He went on to manage legal and compliance in over 90 countries for Sun Microsystems, overseeing over €1.5 billion per year in transactions.

He later became the CEO of Financial Partners Bank, with over 12,000 clients and $1.2 billion AUA. He is the founder of Cayman Enterprise City, the Cayman Commodities and Derivative Exchange, and he served on the board of the Cayman Islands Government Special Economic Zone Authority.
