Mr. Steve Apostolopoulos

Steve Apostolopoulos is the Managing Partner of Triple Group of Companies (TGC), a Toronto-based full service real estate firm specializing in the purchase, leasing, development and management of commercial space. He is also the Co-Founder and Chief Development Officer of Triple Properties, a privately-owned enterprise engaged in real estate investment, development, asset management and leasing.

Mr. Steve Apostolopoulos is the founder of Six Ventures Inc., a private equity venture fund.  An entrepreneur by nature, Mr. Apostolopoulos contributes to a wide variety of philanthropic organizations with his family.

Mr. Tal Kerret

Mr. Tal Kerret is the President of Silverstein Properties, joining the family business in 2010. Silverstein Properties is a privately held, full-service real estate development, investment and management firm based in New York. Founded in 1957 by Chairman Larry Silverstein, the company has developed, owned and managed more than 40 million square feet of commercial, residential, retail and hotel space.  Recent projects include the World Trade Center, Four Seasons Walt Disney Resort and the Four Seasons Downtown NY.

In 2014 Tal co-founded SilverTech Ventures, fostering a community of successful technology companies in NYC.  Prior to joining Silverstein, he was Chairman and Co-Founder of Oberon Media, the largest tech platform for casual media. Prior to Oberon Media, Kerret was CEO and Co-Founder of RichFX for seven years.

Tal served as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces for six years. Kerret holds degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Tel Aviv University.

Mr. Rick Nathan

Rick Nathan leads Kensington’s venture capital investment program as a Managing Director and member of the firm’s Investment Committee. His career spans many years across the private equity and venture market as an industry leader, investor and professional advisor.  Rick currently serves as an active board member of several companies within the Kensington venture portfolio, and as a member of the investor advisory committee of several of Canada’s leading venture funds.

Rick began his career as a corporate and securities lawyer at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, where he practiced law for 12 years, including as head of the firm’s Technology Business Group from 1995 to 1999.  He then entered the investment industry as a Co-founding Partner of Brightspark Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm.  Rick served as President and Chair of CVCA – Canada’s Venture Capital and Private Equity Association from 2005 to 2012 and was a founding Co-Chair of CIX- Canadian Innovation Exchange from 2008 to 2016.  Rick joined Kensington in 2005.

Rick is a graduate of Dartmouth College (Computer Science) and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.

CanFirst invests on behalf of institutional and private high net worth investors and has raised in excess of $550 million of equity capital since its inception. Allan’s real estate career encompasses 38 years of senior executive positions with real estate organizations including The Prudential Insurance Company of America, Canderel Ltd., Dundee Realty Corporation and V&A Properties. His responsibilities included acquisition and disposition, development, marketing, leasing, e-commerce and asset management.

Ms. Sharon Avery

Sharon Avery is President & CEO of Toronto Foundation, one of Canada’s leading community foundations and a Toronto city-building institution.

Ms. Avery has built a 19-year career as a high energy fundraiser and passionate communicator. Prior to joining the Foundation in September, 2016, she served for eight years as Chief Development Officer at UNICEF Canada where she more than doubled its investment in children, transforming the organization on the international stage. There, Sharon led a pivotal fundraising campaign recruiting women philanthropists across Canada to embark on a four-year educational journey on maternal, newborn and child health in the developing world. In just 13 months $12 million was raised to support 3.8 million women and children in Peru, Namibia, Ethiopia, Cambodia and Indonesia.

Prior to UNICEF Sharon Avery held senior roles at SickKids Foundation, Save the Children Canada and Tim Horton Children’s Foundation

Sharon is known for her entrepreneurial spirit, critical thinking and collaborative leadership. She is a dynamic public speaker on a mission to bring philanthropy to the task of building a more resilient Toronto.

Mr. Aneil Gokhale

Aneil Gokhale is a passionate, dynamic, and goal-oriented professional with over 15 years of successful experience. He is currently Director, Philanthropy at Toronto Foundation where he is responsible for the development and management of the new business portfolio. His role is focused on helping individuals, families, professional advisors, companies and other organizations engage in strategic philanthropy. Most recently, Aneil spearheaded the successful creation and launch of Vision 2020, a new program developed to attract and inspire the next generation of philanthropists. The program has successfully engaged 115 millennials and gen-xers in a “Philanthropic MBA cohort” that provides a learning journey and enables them all to create permanent endowments to support city building philanthropy.

Aneil has been with Toronto Foundation for 7 years and before that, he worked at United Way Toronto for 5 years and in the private sector, with GE Healthcare in Medical Sales for 4 years.

Aneil is the Toronto City Ambassador for NEXUS, a global community founded to bridge communities of wealth and social entrepreneurship. He is also the Co-Chair of the Membership and Professional Advisors committee with the local Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) GTA Roundtable and has also been a mentor with CAGP, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Inclusive Giving and Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC). Mr. Grant Bunker

Grant Bunker is an Investment Counsellor within the Private Client Investment Counselling team at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which he joined in 2014.

Mr. Bunker has investment experience since 1995, serving both private and institutional clients. Prior to joining Mawer, Mr. Bunker was Vice President, Business Development for Aurion Capital Management where he was responsible for the management of pooled and segregated accounts. Previous to that, he was Vice President, Business Development for Creststreet Asset Management, Regional Sales Manager at Tricycle Asset Management and a Senior Account Manager at Great-West Life Assurance Co.

Mr. Bunker earned his MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph. In 2006, he obtained his Certified Investment Manager designation from the Canadian Securities Institute.

Mr. David Barr

Mr. Barr is the President, CEO of Pender and Portfolio Manager of several of Pender’s funds. Mr. Barr began his investing career in 2000. He initially worked in private equity which gives him a unique background to investing capital. At the end of 2007 he became a partner at PenderFund Capital Management Ltd and was appointed Chief Investment Officer with the objective of launching Pender’s mutual fund business. In April 2016 Mr. Barr was appointed President and CEO of Pender.  Mr. Barr holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2003 and is an active member of the Vancouver chapter. He is a past President of CFA Vancouver, having also served on its Board of Directors for four years.

Mr. Barr has been interviewed for his opinions on small cap, the technology sector and value investing by the Financial Post, The Globe & Mail and other media. He is a regular guest on BNN Bloomberg. In December 2012 Mr. Barr was recognized as one of British Columbia’s “Top Forty Under 40” business leaders by Business in Vancouver.

The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund, managed by Mr. Barr, has won a Lipper Fund Award for Best Canadian Small/Mid Cap Fund over both three and five year performance periods for the last three consecutive years, 2015 to 2017. The Lipper awards recognize consistently strong, risk-adjusted performance relative to peers. The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund has also received Fundata’s FundGrade® A+ Award for the last seven consecutive years, 2012 to 2018.
