Mr. Saul Plener

Saul Plener is the National Leader for PwC’s Private Company Services practice in Canada. He focuses on business issues affecting owners and leaders of private companies—from digital transformation and growth strategies to succession planning and tax planning.

Prior to his current role, Saul served as the firm’s National Managing Partner for Strategy and Operations and as the National Tax Leader, specializing in international transfer pricing. Before joining PwC, he practiced in the CRA’s large case audit division, where he was responsible for reviewing domestic and international transactions.

For more than 20 years, Saul was actively involved with the CICA and the UFE programs. He was a member of the CICA Tax Policy Committee and the CICA Board of Evaluators (2002 to 2005), and was the Board chairman (2007 to 2008). He is a member of the Professional Advisory Committee of Toronto and is a member of the Budget and Finance committee of the UJA.

Saul has a Bachelor of Business Administration from York University in Toronto. He is a CPA and in 2009 was elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario for his achievements and leadership contributions to the community and the profession.

Mr. Paul Attia

Paul Attia is a lawyer, family business advisor and an executive in his own family’s enterprise. Ms. Kate Pal

Kate’s 12 years of experience in the financial services industry includes commercial lending, private equity, life insurance and estate planning. Today she specializes in identifying and implementing integrated estate planning opportunities for wealthy families and business owners.

Over its forty years, Pal Insurance has built an enviable reputation for its expertise in the innovative use of life insurance and creative estate planning. Kate’s experience in co-leading Pal Insurance with her father, Joe, has given her an intimate understanding of the nuances of being part of a multigenerational family business. With that knowledge and insight, she is able to guide entrepreneurs, enterprising families and successful professionals through their long-term financial and estate planning with care and compassion.

Kate helps her clients articulate and clarify their financial planning objectives, often in the areas of estate preservation, inter-generational transfers, succession planning, and philanthropy. She then works closely with them to implement strategies to achieve those objectives. Kate believes that human and social priorities hold equal importance to technical facts and data.

Prior to joining Pal Insurance, Kate spent many years overseas working in private sector international development — an area where she retains her passion. She started her career issuing long-term debt to private companies in Latin America at The Dutch Development Bank (FMO). Kate later worked in private equity for the Manocap fund, buying and operating businesses in Sierra Leone.

Kate is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA). The CLU is Canada’s premier wealth transfer and estate planning designation while the FEA uses a multi-disciplinary approach to providing collaborative and complementary advice to business family clients. Kate is also a member of the Conference for Advanced Underwriting (CALU) and a member of YPO. Kate holds an Honours BComm designation from Queens University (‘05).

Mr. David Traylor

David Traylor is Senior Managing Director at Golden Eagle Partners, a firm he founded in 2012 to advise life science companies. After advising on various transactions in the life science sector, he took an interest in the cannabis sector and started advising cannabis companies in 2013.   In 2014, he joined Surna, Inc. (OTC:SRNA) as Chief Business Officer. After close to a year stint at Surna, David re-founded Golden Eagle Partners to provide his knowledge to companies across the cannabis sector.

Before Golden Eagle Partners, David led the Life Science group at Headwaters MB, a leading boutique investment bank.   Before Headwaters, David served as a Senior Vice President at Caris & Company where he was focused on biopharmaceuticals. He also previously worked at Pacific Growth Equities, which later became Wedbush. During his banking tenures he has advised private and public biotechnology and medical device companies in various transactions including IPOs, public offerings, private offerings, mergers and acquisitions totaling over $500 million in value.

Before investment banking, David spent fifteen years in diverse operational roles in biotechnology companies, from research and development to business development, manufacturing, program management and senior management.

David began his career in biotechnology, with a position in bioprocess manufacturing at Synergen (acquired by Amgen), and then moved into R&D and process development positions at Somatogen, a company pursuing a recombinant blood substitute. After Somatogen (acquired by Baxter), he led the management of programs and development initiatives at Affymetrix (acquired by Thermo Fisher), the leading innovator in microarray technology. David began his business development career at Deltagen then moved over the lead the U.S. operations for atugen AG (acquired by Silence Therapeutics), a Berlin-based functional genomics company.  At Bioseek (acquired by Asterand), David led the business development efforts for one of the first systems biology companies.

In 1988, David was one of five Colorado players selected to play for the Denver Rifles in the American Lacrosse League (ALL) – the first U.S. professional field lacrosse league.  David remains active in athletics and is parlaying his athletic background and knowledge in cannabis as a valuable member of Athletes for Care.

David received B.A. degrees from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Biochemistry and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and an M.B.A.  from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He is also the inventor on three issued U.S. patents.

David holds the Series 7, 63 and 66 securities licenses.

Mr. Jason Blick

Jason qualified as a UK attorney and served as the nationwide manager of BerrmansLace Mawer, who specialise in financial services. He went on to manage legal and compliance in over 90 countries for Sun Microsystems, overseeing over €1.5 billion per year in transactions.

He later became the CEO of Financial Partners Bank, with over 12,000 clients and $1.2 billion AUA. He is the founder of Cayman Enterprise City, the Cayman Commodities and Derivative Exchange, and he served on the board of the Cayman Islands Government Special Economic Zone Authority.

Mr. Afzal Hasan

Mr. Hasan obtained a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.), Commerce and Human Biology, from the University of Toronto, Canada. Prior to joining CannaRoyalty, Mr. Hasan worked as a securities lawyer at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, where he developed a broad spectrum of experience providing advice to both public and private companies on transactions in diverse industry sectors.

Mr. Hasan’s experience prior to his career in the private legal practice includes a secondment at the Mergers and Acquisitions Group in the Corporate Finance Branch of the Ontario Securities Commission, working with the United Nations and the wholesale banking division of a major multi-national bank in Thailand and completing independent research in microbial genetics at the University of Toronto.

Dr. David Kideckel

Dr. David Kideckel is Managing Director, Senior Equity Research Analyst, Healthcare & Life Sciences at AltaCorp Capital. Previously, David was at another leading Canadian independent investment dealer, where he led the cannabis franchise to new heights in his role as Director of Healthcare & Biotechnology, Institutional Equity Research. He was the only analyst in Canada to cover Nasdaq-listed and world-leader in cannabinoid-derived pharmaceuticals, GW Pharma. Prior to that, David held executive positions at various international pharmaceutical and medical device companies, including the global leader in rare diseases and Nasdaq-Listed, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, OtoSim Inc. and Johnson & Johnson.

A native Winnipegger, David graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Neuropsychology. He has also earned a Master of Science from McMaster University, as well as a PhD from the Institute of Medical Science & Program in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto and as well as a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management.

Dr. Gregory Levey

Gregory Levey is the co-founder and CEO of Figure 1, a platform that enables over 2.5 million healthcare professionals to share and discuss clinical cases.
